Hogan Hits the Boards (figuratively)

IMG_7387

Taylor Hogan along with Todd Scheske (Preferred Care) and Frank Mesi (Handlebars) took part in velodrome racing this past weekend at the Forest City Velodrome in London, Ontario, Canada. The weekend racing featured a competition between the US, Quebec and Ontario.
The track is one of the steepest in the country and if this picture doesn't raise your pulse, then you have definite problems.
I encourage everyone in competitive cycling to check out the track. There are a series of sessions the track provides on acclimating the rider to the banking, which is very professionally done. With sufficient fitness, and fixed gear knowledge, they will teach you how to ride in a couple of hours.
While it was a lot of fun to watch those that are really experts on the track, I enjoyed watching kids taking part in their own competition. Parents came out to cheer their kids on doing the sport of their choice, just like you would see during summer softball. Only this evening the kids got to play on the same field and same time as the major league. HERE is a picture of a girl who just won a pursuit, and she is carrying the winners flag, in the foreground is a rider who didn't fare as well.

Yvette's GIRLY iPod Content

While she may be able to ride a bike, Yvette has some definite music problems. I had to ask my teenagers who Gwen Stefani and T.A.T.U were, and my mom who C&C was. Ok, Tomb Raider rocks, I know Laura Croft has inspired me many a time... By the way, Mo made me say all this, so take it out on him, not me.

1 and 2. Rich Girl and Hollaback Girl…Gwen Stefani
3 and 4. All the Things She Said and Show Me Love…T.A.T.U. (the beat pushes
100-110 rpms)
5. Tomb Raider…both movie soundtracks, Lara Croft is an aggressive and
inspiring character for women and men
6. Any Jock Jams CD…I know very corney, but it helps push me through AT
work
7. P.S. I like C & C Music Factory

Kevin is Doing the Funky Frog Thing

frog
The following is new team member Kevin Mahoney's (pronounced my honey) response to what he was playing on his iPod. Guys, did we actually do a reference check on Kevin?

What’s on my ipod? Being the owner of the world’s smallest capacity mp3 player I’m forced to change songs frequently and I like to go with themes. My current theme is “frogs” mostly because I like them, they come in many sizes and they can live on land or water! And they’re good jumpers too. My player fits five songs so I play them over, and over, and over…

It’s not that easy being green – Kermit the Frog…I find this very touching yet bouncy; it is excellent for recovery spinning (my favorite)

Kiss that frog – Peter Gabriel…this one keeps my hope alive that there is a prince (or princes perhaps) in each of us just waiting to be released; it is also very nice on easy rides but lively enough for tempo rides too.

Frog went a courtin’ – Unknown…I like this because while he was courtin’ he actually went for a ride “Frog went a' courtin' he did ride, hmm, Frog went a' courtin he did ride, Sword and his pistol by his side, hmm” The rhymes are first rate too.

Jeremiah was a bullfrog (also known as Joy to the world) – Three Dog Night…who doesn’t wish for a friend that can’t be understood but shares his wine? This one makes me feel like a high night flyer and rainbow rider for sure.

Peace Frog – The Doors (Jim Morrison)…this one scares me quite badly because all Jim sings about is blood…it’s in the streets, on the roofs, in peoples hair…this one makes me want to ride real fast so I can hide; I’m not sure where the “frog” fits in but I’m sure Jim knew when he wrote it. Perfect for sub-threshold intervals.

      What's on Your iPod?

Now that winter is in full swing, many of us have had to resort to spending time in the basement, thrashing away on the stationary trainer. One way many of use help make the time pass is to load up the iPod (or MP3 player) with some of our favorite tunes, and turn up the volume. One thing that can be said about the JW dundee's Cycling team is that we have a very diverse crew, and that includes musical tastes. We thought it would be fun to share with you what we like to listen to while suffering on the trainer.

      Dave Rowley

Yahoo!!! Santa brought me the iPod I was lusting for! Here is a list of some of the tunes I have loaded up to listen to while pounding out a cadence-

      1. Lets Get It Started, Black Eyed Peas...I just like the groove.
      2. Hey Yah!...Outkast
      3. Gonna Make You Sweat, C+C Music Factory...I actually hate this song, but every time I hear it, I can picture Dwight 15 years ago doing some kind of weird Dwight-dance. Somehow I suspect that this song got him into the whole Hip-hop scene.
      4. Where the Streets Have No Name, U2...No comment Needed
      5. The Hand that Feeds, Nine Inch Nails...Makes you want to pedal. HARD.
      6. I Ran, Flock of Seagulls...For some reason, the guitar riffs make you want to ride fast.
      7. Iris...Live
      8. DOA, Foo Fighters...Actually, andthing with tempo by these guys is great for the trainer.
      9. Bom Bom Bom, Living Things...I just like the riffs.
      10. Feel Good Inc...Gorillaz

      Taylor Hogan
      iPod Nano 4G
I have the same mix I listen to every time. I don't listen to these songs except on the trainer.
      1. Matrix Theme Song, next to Top Gun and Ghost Busters best movie ever made
2 Get On Top....Red Hot Chili Peppers, a 3 minute hill repeat song
      3. Motorcycle...As the Rush Comes, a tempo beat
      4. El Distorto De Melodica...Everclear
      5. Lose Yourself...Eminem, substitute rap for cycling and you get the idea
      6. Impressed...Natalie Imbruglia, nothing make me go faster than female angst
      7. Throwing Stones...Paula Cole, ditto
      8. Whipping Post...Allman Brothers The greatest band ever
      9. Love Shack...B52s
      10. Elevation...U2 Visions of Angelina Jolie
      11. Sweet Home Alabama....Jewel,A cool down song
      12. Salsa Falemenca....? A Spanish song that reminds me of climbing mountains.
