Cheyne Wins Bristol!

DSC_0046

The "Real Deal" Cheyne Hoag attacked on the second lap, and never looked back. His last lap was solo, and was timed to be faster than the Pro/1/2 field. Now thats fast. Congrats to Cheyne and his big win as a Cat3.

The team had an impressive outing with Yvette getting a podium finish in the woman's race, Kevin finishing 5th in the Master's race, and Staffo getting into the money spot in the Pro/1/2 race.

Congrats to to all.

Survivor Ride

The first survivor ride took place under perfect spring conditions last night. About a dozen cancer survivors and their friends and family joined up with a large contingent of team members to enjoy a ride around the Mendon Pond Park area.

As usual Dwight (D-Man) took over as Master of Ceremonies. Dozens of smiles appeared as Dwight entered the parking lot. He immediately welcomed everyone and discussed the current racing season, introduced some new faces and quickly organized the ride into two groups.

This casual observer noticed that the Winter spinning classes have really paid off in keeping up the level of fitness. The group choosing the shorter ride kept a brisk pace, only stopping to make sure we all kept together before an important turn.

Refreshments from Hammer Nutrition where provided by RV&E for a recovery ride snack.

Hopefully next Monday's ride will have similar weather and even a greater turnout.

Sturbridge – Palmer, MA - Race Weekend Wrap-Up

Continuing his impressive series of early season race results, JW Dundees – Home Performance rider Cheyne Hoag placed 4th in the highly contested category 3 road race in Palmer, MA. With the field remaining largely intact after 60+ miles of racing and facing many of New England’s and USA north-east region’s best racers, Cheyne proved 4th quickest in the sprint to the line in spite of being handicapped by his required junior gearing (52 x 14 max versus the 52 x 11 favored by most racers). The day’s previous race in Sturbridge, MA, also finishing in a large bunch sprint, served as Cheyne’s warm-up for the day with little hope for good results with the 40+ mph downhill downwind finale proving far too quick for his restricted gearing.

Racing in the Master Men’s 35+ field, Dundees – Home Performance rider Dan Staffo finished with the front groups in bunch sprints both days; Kevin Mahoney racing in the Master Men’s 45+ events finished 25th and 30th respectively finishing with the front groups in bunch sprints both days. Fields for the highly contested master’s events were at full capacity (capped at 125 riders in each event each day). To help put things in perspective regarding New England Master’s racing, the 45+ field in Palmer finished the 60 mile event with an average speed of 27 mph. Per Kevin “wow these old guys are fast….wait I’m old too!”.
